Is it possible to become a successful actor?

I am 16 years old, a Junior in high school, and I am currently weighing my university options. Acting is my passion, it is my life; there is nothing I love to do more in life than act. However, I am aware that the chances of becoming well-known, successful actor are EXTREMELY slim (maybe 2%?). I also happen to be very smart; I have the highest grades of my class and I always have (sorry if that sounds arrogant, I'm just trying to give information). So as far as college goes, I could probably get in almost anywhere - that isn't a worry of mine. What I've been stressing about is what to do. I am really enticed by learning about acting, acting technique, how to act, etc., so I have been researching college acting programs. I am currently most interested in a BFA in Acting, especially at USC. I want to get my BFA, then go to LA and hit the floor running, get an agent, audition everyday, waiter (or something else) when I manage to find free time, and hopefully break into the business. However, I realize that this would be extremely unlikely, and a BFA in Acting doesn't really open up a lot of other career opportunities.

So I was thinking of doing what many (or maybe only a few...) actors have done, such as Matthew McConaughey - go to a school (preferably USC or Stanford, as I would like to be in California), get a practical degree (I really like math and physics, so I was thinking something in engineering), then going to LA and hitting the floor running; that way if I didn't make it (most likely), I would have a degree and a career option I could fall back on.

So what I'm asking is, should I get a BFA in Acting and have that as a strong acting background, or should I get a more practical degree as a foundation in case I don't make it as an actor?
I'm looking for realistic answers, not "You can do it!!!!!! Yay!!!!!" I mean yeah those make me feel great but I need some honest feedback. I'm looking for advice, not encouragement. Thanks.
But "no, sorry" isn't really advice either.

And I can't transfer schools, I already tried the boarding school experience (Groton), I've been to 6 schools since 3rd grade, I'm not moving schools again. Thanks though.

Yeah you could major in something practical and minor in Drama or Theatre, but you wouldn't get nearly the same experience or get to take the same courses as if you simply majored in Theatre or Drama.
